Australian Lunars Gold Bullion Coins

Australian Lunars Information

Picture of Australian Lunars In 1996 the Perth Mint in Australia started a collectors series of gold bullion cons representing the Lunar Calendar. The Lunar calendar is observed most notably in southeast asian nations and china. The Australian Lunar series of gold bullion coins features a different animal for 12-year lunar cycle. 2006 is the Year of the Dog and 2007 is the Year of the Pig. An entire list of animal symbols and the corresponding years is shown below.

Each coin is made of .9999 pure gold and is meticulously struck with a beautiful animal motif. On the other side of the bullion coin is the Queen's portrait. Coins are encased in clear plastic to protect the beutiful shining surface of the soft gold bullion coin.

The 1 oz gold coins are limited to 30,000 annually which means that they have a higher liklihood of fetching a premium over their intrinsic gold value. 2000, 2001, 2002 coins are already sold out.

Another feature of the Australian Lunars is that they are part of a 12-coin collection. There is a strong compulsion for individuals to obtain a complete set. You can be sure that the 2007 Pig Bullion Coin will be sought after for those looking for the complete Australian Lunars Gold Bullions.

With the Year of the Pig in 2007, the 12-coins set is complete and closed out to future production. If you don't own the other years, 2007, the final year, is a terrific opportunity to own just one.

These pure gold coins make great gifts for anyone. Priced only slightly higher than the intrinsic value of the gold itself, but have a potential for appreciation with collectors known as numismatic appreciation.

Why Gold Coins
There are so many different ways to own gold, so the question is, why gold coins. Gold coins go back to ancient times when the first currencies were pressed ingots of gold. The metal is malleable and is relatively easy to work into a coin. Though early coins were rather crude in shape, todays coins are perfectly minted works of art with intricate details. The Australian Lunar series is an example of this beautiful workmanshp.

Each annual mint is limited and mint distribution ends in November. Buying from the mint insures that you can purchase for a market price plus some percentage mark-up. After this time, the numismatic premium becomes a factor.
