Gold Bar & Ingot Information
Gold Bars offer a highly efficient way to buy large amounts of gold relative to coins. Often, gold bars are cast at a relative low premium over the intrinsic value of the precious metal. This premium is often around 3% though can be less based on volume. Major gold market traders will deal in gold bars or ingots typically, while smaller investors may favor gold coins. A major difference to consider when thinking about investing in gold bars verus coins is that the market for gold bars is not as liquid as that for coins. For the most part, gold bars are associated with larger amounts of gold, as such, the number of buyers for larger amounts of gold is less than the number of buyers for small amounts of gold. This means that you may have a harder time finding a buyer for your gold when the time comes for you to sell.
Gold coins on the other hand, have two factors going for them that make them suitable for the average gold trader. Not only is the market for coins more liquid than for bars, a coin may have a premium associated with it based on the coins mintage. This does not mean however, that gold bars do not have a potential for a collector's premium above and beyond the intrinsic value of the gold or precous metal itself. Take for instance, gold bars cast by assayer Johnson-Matthey, Credit Suisse, or Swiss Gold PAMP Bars.
PAMP stands for Produits Artistiques de M?ux Pr?eux, which is a refinery in Castel San Pietro, Switzeraland. The Swiss PAMP trademark is readily recognizedy gold traders, sellers, and buyers which means that these gold bars may be easier to deal than unstamped bars or bars from a less reputable assayer.
Johnson Matthy is perhaps the most recognized assayer in gold and precious metals. Gold bars stamped with the Johnson Matthy or JM trademark are recognized instantly worldwide as pure 0.99999 gold bars. Older bars from JM are sought after for there collectability owing to its trademark. A significant premium will be paid for older Johnson Matthey Gold Bars.
One final note is the difference between gold bars and gold ingots. When researching investment gold, you may come across gold ingots. A gold ingot is the name given to only cast gold bars. These cast bars are typically thicker than stamped gold bars. Whether gold is stamped or cast, they are both also called gold bars.
Gold bars make a great luxourious gift for that person who has everything - especailly those interested in investing in gold bars. Buy bars of gold and buy bullion bars of gold today.
